It is a privately owned business with a turnover of US$200M and part of a wider private group with total turnover of US$500M.
Redevelopment of the IT Strategy was identified as a key need to leverage new technologies and adopt streamlined systems across the organisation, which in a project driven environment faced a number of challenges to present a relevant and reliable solution across the business.
Implementation of proposed solutions would follow an architecture roadmap to support the policy, however sufficient understanding of what data was being used in each area of the business segments was required to underpin the digital transformation and change management program.
We established and run a project to provide a summary of key information and data used by the various business segments including support functions to be used to support the development of the IT Strategy.
Information gathered was used to assess the appropriateness of existing systems and data management techniques at a level suitable to assess the requirement for, and/or benefits of a change to existing IT systems and platforms within the context of an overall strategy.
A functional rather than system-based approach was adopted to gather key data requirements across the business and to ensure proposed solutions were business driven and exclude results being biased by existing IT infrastructure.
Our findings were used to create an unbiased, data based architecture road map as part of the overall IT Strategy which could take into account business priorities, existing data capture methods, areas of duplication or poor processing as well as data availability to users when and where it was needed. This view ensured that future solutions were relevant to data users and that key data flows were built into revised procedures supported by upgraded architecture.
